Whether you’re on a bit of a budget or wanting to stick with the hand-made gifts (or both!), a beach or bath towel, tea towel, or face cloth makes for a perfect option.
Although it’s a nice, quick and easy project, the results are anything but basic. Choose from one of our 5 colours of gorgeous French-made Turkish cotton towelling, neaten or bind the edges, and you’ve got a $250 beach towel for less than $30 and an hour of your time.
Follow this super easy step-by-step guide to gift yourself or your friends and family a little bit of well-deserved luxury.
-
First step is to choose the size and type of towel you’re making. Refer to the chart below for some conventional size references.
|
Beach Towel |
150cm x 80cm |
|
Bath Towel |
140cm x 70cm |
|
Tea Towel |
70cm x 50cm |
|
Face Cloth |
30cm x 30cm |

Measure and cut your desired width and length.
Our Turkish cotton towellings come finished with a binding on both selvedges, which makes the process for the beach or bath towel even easier since 2 sides are already done. If you’re making a tea towel or face cloth, you’ll need to trim one of the sides shorter.
-
To finish the raw edges, you can use bias binding or just double neaten by folding in 5cm, then 50cm again (this is the method I used for my beach towel and worked well). If you’re finding your seams are too bulky for your liking, you can trim the pile within your seam allowances.

You can add a label or some embroidery (monogrammed towels, anyone?) if you’d like, but with that, you’re finished… told you it was easy!
