MEET THE TEAM: RIA
New to our Drapers Diaries, this week we're kicking off the first ever edition of Meet the Team; a series dedicated to our incredible staff so you can get to know a little more about those who work behind the scenes (and the counters) to bring you the Drapers you know and love.
This week we spoke with Ria, our Newmarket store manager and all round Drapers darling, who any Auckland local will know well. She's often the first smiling face to greet you when you walk through the door, and has an impressive talent for remembering her customers past projects and purchases.
We asked Ria a few questions about herself, see her responses below;
What inspires you?
I'm lucky to work with such an eclectic bunch of creatives who are constantly inspiring me! We all have our own aesthetics and love to bounce ideas off each other, especially when we have a new release of fabrics.
Your favourite fabric in store right now?
Our in store exclusive sandwashed silk crepe de chine in bright red is stunning! I'm a sucker for anything red, and Italian.
Your favourite make to date, and what you're planning for your next project?
My favourite make to date would probably be my bright tangerine silk satin bias cut halter-neck dress.
Our Italian silk shipment has got me really excited. I'm thinking of using our Solara Dress pattern but as a duster coat in one of our vibrant silk taffetas. Can you tell that I love silk?
What do you do when you're not running Drapers?
I find cooking very therapeutic, so I spend a lot of my weekends in the kitchen! Otherwise, I'll be in my studio behind my sewing machine.
Your best sewing hack/sewing advice?
I told myself at the beginning of my fashion degree to never be angry at my sewing machine. If something is not working out how I intended, it's important to step back and re-think.
